Why do they call our heel our Achilles Tendon ? They call it that because
of the Greek Hero Achilles the Great Warrior. They name it after him because of
his only weak spot at the back of his heel. That is where they got the name of it
from. In the story of Achilles, they talk about all of the stuff like how he was in
the Trojan War and all of that good things, but not here. The story of Achilles is
all of the specifics like his family and background, his characteristics, and all of
his enemies and allies.
First of all he was the strongest of all the Greeks and also the most
competent of all of the Greeks too. He was the head honcho of all the Heroes
the big Chief. His parents are loving parents named Peleus (his father) and Tetis
the sea nymph (his mother). It is said that his mother loved him so much that
she was worried that he would get hurt some say during his life. So she went to
the Styx River where she dipped him in when he was very little. But sense she
had to hold him his heel therefor it did not get dipped in the river so it is his
only vulnerable spot (he can be killed only if hurt in that spot).
Second, of all he was the most handsomest young man out of all of the
Greeks and the most swiftest of all of the mortals. Legend says that he was
destined to be much greater than his father has or will ever be. At one point in
his life his mother had disguised him as a girl and had him weave and sew like
the other girls in order to protect him for Odysseus that was in disguised as a
peddler. At that he betrayed his sex by seizing a sword and spear from the
peddler’s and taking control of his father’s men or army.
Third, of all is that his enemies were very mean to him. Agamemmon owed
everyone some sort of thing like either money or livestock and even work or
tools. But he did not owe Achilles anything. Another was Cycnus in battle he and
Achilles met and Achilles killed him by strangling him with his helmet strap his
own helmet strap imagine that! Later when the Trojan war came about Achilles
was ready along with his best friend Patroclus. Then during a battle Hector
leader of the Trojans killed Patroclus. He drug his bloody body around behind his
chariot as if trying to provoke Achilles. Later in the war Achilles and Hector met
up and Achilles killed him and took his friends armor and drug Hector behind his
own chariot. After awhile Achilles got tired of all of the fighting so he decided to
stop. As he stopped he fell in love with Polyxena the sister of Hector. When he
went to propose to her he was shot in the back of his heel with a poisoned arrow
by the Brother of Hector. And that was the end of Achilles life.
As you have read Achilles’ family was kind to him. His characteristics are
interesting. And his enemies were very cruel to him.
