In Henry David Thoreau's essay, The Battle of the Ants, he compares humans at war to ants at war. Thoreau trivializes human beings and sees war as barbaric and pointless. Thoreau expresses that wars are not really fought for any good reason, and the people are just led to believe that there is some principle. There are also expressions throughout the story comparing ants to men. I was surprised to find that the chips were covered with such combatants, that it was not a duellum, but a bellum
