XXX. That is what some of the magazines in the United States are rated. Its
content is meant to be read and viewed by adults, persons over the age of 18.
Unfortunately, these magazines have been able to get into the hands of teenagers
and minors across the nation. The content, which is meant for adults, in the hands
of children....what kind of a country is this? The explicit pictures and stories
contained in these magazine are enough to make a grown man or woman insane, just
imagine the effects that the content could have on minors. Imagine all of the images
created in a minorís mind from viewing such vulgar publications. Pornography can
lead to sexual harrassment, violent sex crimes, sexual violence, the urge to rape, an
increase in sexual desire, and many other harmful effects. For these reasons, the
sale and distribution of pornographic material should be more strictly regulated.
The sale of pornographic material, including sexually-explicit book,
magazines, and videos, is illegal to people under the age of 18. These items are
easily accessible to American youth, and therefore, thousands and thousands of
teenagers are viewing explicit materials daily. Whether the pornography be stolen,
given to by an older sibling, or found in a trash can, minors have had their hands on
these vulgar publications. Approximately 70% of the pornographic magazines sold
eventually end up in the hands of minors. More so, the chief consumers of
pornographic material in the United States are 15-19 year old males. More strict
regulations of pornography sales would lead to a decrease in the distribution of
these magazine, but many people wonder why these magazines are considered to be
so bad?
People wonder how displays of sexual acts must be regulated, when those
acts have been the creators of life. Without sex, there would be no people....get it?
As reasonable as it may seem to display acts of sexuality, there are many negative
effects that viewing these acts may have on a person. A single glance at an erotic
picture will not cause a person to become ill, but daily viewing can cause a person
to become addicted. Just like cocaine, coffee, and the internet, pornography can be
addictive.
In many cases, porno magazines and movies are based upon fantasy. These
fantasy based displays can lead minors and even adults to expect those fantasy-like
sex encounters to be reality when they act out on their sexual desires. Pornography
viewers also tend to desire more fantasy-like sex. These fantasies can include
exotic places, unhealthy condition, dangerous conditions, and even sex with
children.
People can become addicted to pornography. Ted Bundy, was a sick man,
who was convicted of raping numeroud women. Before each of these rapings,
Bundy admitted, he would read porno magazines to boost his desire. The sex acts
that he committed were his way of acting out the fantasies that were created by
pornography.
Pornography also has a large effect on teenage sexuality. Pornography can
give a teenager a perverted perspective on sexuality.
Theorists have concluded that the viewing of hard-porn, of even soft-porn can
have negative effects on the minds of not only minors, but adults.
A future
Hard-care pornography tends to foster imitation. Reports note that research
shows a casual relationship between exposure to material of this type and aggessive
behavoir towards women. Rapists who were interviewed in prison were 15 times
more likely than nonoffenders to have been exposed to hard-core pornography
during the ages of 6 to 10. Hard-core pornographyís cheif consumer is once again,
15-19 year old males.
Pornography may be the most prevalent form of sex education for our
nationís youth. Rather than the youth of America learning about abstinence and
sexual morals, the impressionable youth are being taught that women are playthings,
that sex has little to do with love and need not be tied to commitment or fidelity, and
that sexual activity is appropriate anywhere, with anyone, and at any time.
