Who was responsible for the death of Curley’s wife?
“… He shook her; and her body flopped like a fish. And then she was still, for Lennie had broken her neck.” (Pg. 91.)
The novel, Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, is a book that is very hard to let go. This book has two main characters, one named George, and the other named Lennie. George and Lennie travel together because George promised Lennies Aunt Clara that he would take care of Lennie, George and Lennie travel together constantly to find jobs because Lennie keeps getting them fired, or he does some thing bad in a town. Then once George and Lennie go to work a ranch and on the ranch George and Lennie meet many people, out of those people they meet Curley’s wife which is the boss’ sons wife. In one part of the story, when Lennie kills Curley’s wife, was interesting, because many people have different point of views on this subject. Who was responsible for the death of Curley’s wife? George and Curley and the other men that work on the ranch were responsible for the death of Curley’s wife.
“George gonna say I done a bad thing. He ain’t gonna let me tend no rabbits.” (Pg.91.)
The death of Curley’s wife was partly George’s fault. It was George’s fault Curley’s wife died because he said to Lennie that if he went near Curley’s wife he would penalize Lennie. That’s why Lennie killed Curley’s wife, because he didn’t want Curley’s wife to go yelling in the barn. It’s also George’s fault because George said if Lennie did any thing wrong, George would not let Lennie tend the rabbits when they got their little plot of land.
Curley’s has fault in his wife’s death also wife because he is always asking if anyone is with his wife somewhere, and from that the men start to lose respect for her because Curley is always thinking she is with someone. If Curley have not have been asking the men if they had seen his wife, the men would not be scared to talk to Curley’s wife, if so she wouldn’t have had to go to the barn to talk to Lennie, which kills her.
The men that work on the ranch were also responsible for the death of Curley’s wife. The Men on the ranch were responsible for Curley’s wife’s death because they’re always talking bad things about her, like saying that she is a tart and such things, that’s what made Lennie so scared at first to talk her in the barn. The men don’t go even near her because if they were caught with her they could be canned, or in other words fired.
“ I done a bad thing. I done another bad thing.” (Pg.91.)
Some people think that it was Lennie’s fault Curley’s wife died, others think it’s George’s fault Lennie killed Curley’s wife died, but it isn’t Lennie’s, it’s the fault of many people. Therefore you can conclude that George; Curley and the other men that work on the ranch were responsible for the death of Curley’s wife.
