Phragmites is a tall grass like marsh weed, which has been labeled as an invasive exotic by some environmentalists and plant biologists. Recent research has revealed that a native strain of Phragmites has been growing in the North American Marshlands, prior to the arrival of the colonists. Journal articles suggest that while similar in appearance, the 2 strains have different growth characteristics. It is hypothesized that the native strain can be identified by average height and growth density.
