One of the first tasks given to man directly by God, was to name everything on earth

created by him, as it is said in Genesis 2:19-20: "And out of the ground the LORD God formed

every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he

would call them; and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name

thereof". The importance given to something so simple, is aparently of less importance.

However, the word name is cited in the Bible almost eight hundred times, many of them during

passages of great importance and profund significance.

The name Rodrigo is a very popular name in Brazil. Originated either form Portugal or

Spain, was derived from the name Roderico (Ruod-Rik), meaning "powerful prince". Rodrigo is

pronounced in a very different way from what you would think, because the first "R" is

pronounced as if it were an "H", thus sounding like "Hodrigo". It has caused me a lot of trouble

in the U.S., since my intimate friends would just call me "Rô" or in plain old English, "Ho".

My Mom told me that the reason my Dad chose this name was because she had already

chosen my sister's name, so it was his turn. Don't ask what she named my sister, it would be too

complicated to explain...I searched the Internet upside down for my name, and after ten failures,

"Not found in database", I realized I wouldn't find it on English written sites. I finally found sites

in Brazil, where the Portuguese language is spoken.

I really have no problems with my name, I actually never thought of it as deep as I am

thinking now, but it is really hard for english speaking folks to pronouce it the way I would like

to hear, so if I had to change it to a different one, I really don't know what I would pick. I just tell

them to call me Rod...
