Karl Blossfeldt

“Forsythia suspense” – Karl Blossfeldt

German born Karl Blossfeldt believed that "the plant must be valued as a totally artistic and architectural structure." Blossfeldt was born in Schielo, Harz, Germany in 1865. Blossfeldt created his own camera in 1899 and began to photograph plant forms. His style of sharp focused images in black and white helped to distort the images. Blossfeldt retired in 1931, however is would not be until 1975 when his first plates were developed. Blossfeldt died in 1932.
